Because of... To you, how important is using the Internet? I don't mean TV, music and stuff like that, although we know they're important enough for those who subscribe. How important is it to you to have all of the collective knowledge of humanity at your fingertips? Do you follow the news? Do you do any research for school or work? Have you used the Internet to apply for any jobs? Do you communicate with anyone via email? How about online purchases? When was the last time you touched a computer (or phone) and didn't use the Internet?

How important to you is your phone? It's nice to keep in touch with friends and family, sure. Apps come in all forms and most communicate with a business server somewhere. That stuff aside, how important are emergency phone services to you, like 999?

Do you like your money? Do you use online banking? Do you trade in any markets? Would it be important to you to pay bills online, or deposit money without having to bring a check to the bank, or to be able to place a stock trade from anywhere in seconds?

Anywhere there's data that needs moving from one place to another there are network engineers responsible for making it happen, fixing it when it breaks, and improving on it. This is the power of a Network Engineer.
