It's me Rafat Md. Shahriar Hoque Joy. I have completed BSc. in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) from World University of Bangladesh. I was interested in Network Engineering, when I was in my college life.
In a word, I'm badly passionate with this sector. That's why I've completed some professional training about CCNA, MicroTik along with CompTIA A+, Cyber Security, Linux System Administration (RHCSA) and Windows Server. Even now I'm officially certified as MTCNA and MTCRE Engineer.
Alhumdulillah! Now I'm working in a Corporate company as a System Engineer in IT Department. Looking forward more something in this Sector...
Now the question is- How important are network engineers?
Several great answers here, so I'll take a slightly different tact. When I first started down the network engineer path, my parents asked me, what does that mean? What do you do as a network engineer?
Well, almost everyone in world is on a network of some kind. Your phone dings with a message from your phone's network. Your email alerts with a message that is provided on your personal SOHO (small office, home office) network. You look at cat pictures and argue politics on Facebook over that same network on your laptop. A home network is often small and simple, where you have a router, a WiFi adaptor, maybe a switch too.
Most businesses use VoIP solutions, which stands for voice over internet protocol, and means it runs over the network too. We can prioritize voice traffic over email traffic by changing the protocol used and which VLAN it gets tagged by. We can set and change account permissions and what network access is allowed to which users based on a password protected accounts tailored to each users job.
Basically there is a lot going on under the hood that the average user doesn't need to worry about to get their job done. Without networks and network engineers, you would be back in the shoe network days, when things were saved on a disk and walked over to another user, with anyone gaining physical access to the media able to manipulate or delete it. Or even further back, when things were created on a typewriter or hand written. How much time does your laptop and your connectivity save you than if you were writing things out by hand and using the BD mail system to communicate instead?
So that's what network engineers do. We create these networks, we respond when something goes wrong and needs fixing, and we proactively perform maintenance to keep the network running at high performance. That's all. Thanks for your time.
